The Alaska Smart Communities Forum was started in 2016 by the Matanuska Susitna Borough to bring together government agencies, businesses and non-profits to learn about data, tools, and services to better serve residents and customers. The Forum is a catalyst to create partnerships, share expertise and resources, use authoritative data sources, and avoid data silos and duplication. Popular initiatives are local and statewide Open Data portals and GIS sites for people to learn about and explore their local community and state.
